The PlayStation 5 is powered by a custom system on a chip (SoC) designed in tandem by AMD and Sony, integrating a custom 7 nm AMD Zen 2 CPU with eight cores running at a variable frequency capped at 3.5 GHz. The Zen 2 is a 64-bit x86-64 instruction set processor.

Looking at the PS5 now that it's had a couple of years to bed in, well, it still hasn't got any sleeker with familiarity. At 15.4 x 10.2 x 4.1 inches, it makes the older PS4 look diminutive, while the black and white two-tone color scheme isn't exactly subtle.


Many will find the design to be unattractive and will want to hide the PS5 away. I found that in a neat entertainment unit, it becomes less...err... eye-catching. But others may come to like the outlandish looks that definitely stand out from the boxy design of the Xbox Series X.
